Public Health
Practice Areas
We are working to drive policy, system, and environmental change in public health in four interconnected practice areas.
Employers and Public Health Priorities
The workplace is a community in and of itself that can contribute meaningfully to a healthier ecosystem. Employers have a critical role to play in advancing whole-person health by taking a stand for specific action, helping raise awareness among their employees, and taking steps to advance the health of the communities in which they operate. The Employer Action Exchange provides a trusted platform and includes expert guidance, briefings, and networking to advance customized, tangible actions on whole-person health priorities.
Health Equity
We explore the root causes of health disparities that drive poorer health outcomes, and health policy to advance health equity for all. Building thriving communities and advancing health equity require improving the interrelated social and economic conditions at the root causes of health outcomes. This includes ensuring that health communication, access, and delivery reflect the needs, experiences, and unique characteristics of historically excluded people.
Mental Health
In order to attain total health, we must normalize a “whole person” approach that prioritizes mental and physical health equally. To do so, we are working strategically with employers, as they are uniquely positioned to reach employees, their families, and the surrounding communities, and can help them access evidence-based, innovative, inclusive prevention, treatment, and recovery resources to...
Prevention and Chronic Disease
Prevention and Chronic Disease is an all-encompassing priority that addresses how chronic diseases are understood and managed, how populations are impacted, and how issues related to infrastructure and financing can affect health and well-being. Our Public Health initiative aims to improve health outcomes through research, programs, and policy initiatives with health equity as a central tenet...
Women's Health
Advancing women’s health in the United States and globally can improve health and well-being of women, their families, and society. There is a need for practical, innovative, and scalable solutions to address the critical issues, as well as immediate action by a range of stakeholders to advance women’s health throughout the lifespan. The Milken Institute’s efforts in women’s health span research...
