Welcome to the Milken Institute
The Milken Institute (the “Institute,” “we,” “us,” “our”) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan global think tank committed to accelerating measurable global progress in the areas of health, finance, and strategic philanthropy. These Terms and Conditions (the “Terms”) are a legal contract between you (“you,” “your,” and “User”) and the Institute regarding your use of our website at www.milkeninstitute.org. The Terms are also applicable to all affiliated websites, apps or digital properties under the control of the Milken Institute (each, and collectively with the Institute website, any/the “Site(s)”), in however manner you access or use such properties (e.g., computer, mobile device).
Sites Description
We provide access to and permit use of the Sites for the purpose of providing information to you. Through the Sites, we provide educational content, papers, research, and information about the Institute’s programs and events. On certain of our Sites, you may also be able to take other actions, such as creating an account, subscribing to a newsletter, interacting with other users, applying for participation in an event, responding to a Request for Proposal, or submitting a job application. You are responsible for complying with all laws, regulations and rules relating to your access to or use of the Sites in any manner.
Acceptance of Terms
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING TERMS OF USE CAREFULLY. BY ACCESSING OR USING OUR SITES IN ANY MANNER, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO BROWSING, DOWNLOADING CONTENT, USING INTERACTIVE FEATURES OR SUBSCRIBING TO NEWSLETTERS AND OTHER COMMUNICATIONS, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTOOD, AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS, INCLUDING THE PRIVACY POLICY INCORPORATED HEREIN. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THESE TERMS, DO NOT ACCESS OR USE ANY OF THE SITES.
Changes to Terms
The Institute reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to change, modify, add, remove, or otherwise alter the Terms at any time. We will make a reasonable effort to provide notice to you of such modifications, such as by posting a notice on the Sites, and any amended terms will be effective when we have posted such notice and the effective date. Certain changes made for legal reasons will be effective immediately.
Accordingly, you should review the Sites and these Terms regularly to keep yourself apprised of any future changes. Your use of the Sites following any changes constitutes your acceptance of any changes.
Use of the Sites/Prohibited Conduct
You agree to use the Sites for lawful, non-commercial purposes only and in accordance with these Terms. You are expressly prohibited from any conduct that would:
Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation.
Interfere with the operation, security, or integrity of any Site.
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of any Site or its systems.
Use any Site to distribute unsolicited or unauthorized advertising or spam.
Infringe upon the intellectual property or other rights of any third party.
Without limiting the foregoing, you acknowledge and agree that you will not take any action to:
post any comment to any Site, or any social media page operated by the Institute, that includes profanity, hate speech, personal attacks, or comments that are libelous, defamatory, discriminatory, obscene, pornographic, abusive, or otherwise illegal (including violations of copyright and trademark laws). We welcome free and respectful expression of opinion but reserve the right to block or remove a post, comment or access privileges of commenters who violate our standards at any time. Any opinions expressed in user comments on any Site are not those of the Institute;
use or attempt to use any automated device, program, tool, algorithm, process or methodology, such as a “bot” or “scraper,” or any manual process having similar processes or functionality, to access, acquire, copy, or monitor any portion of any Site, any data or content found on or accessed through any Site;
introduce viruses, trojans, worms, or other material that may be technologically harmful;
attack our Sites via a denial-of-service attack, including a distributed denial-of service attack. Such attacks are a criminal offense, and we will report them to relevant law enforcement authorities and disclose your identity to them, and your right to use the Sites will terminate immediately;
obtain or attempt to obtain through any means any content, functionality, or other information which has not been intentionally made available to you either by visible display on the Sites or access through a visible link on the Sites;
reverse engineer or otherwise attempt to obtain the source code of the Sites;
attempt to gain unauthorized access to our network(s), our Sites, the server on which our websites are stored or any server, computer or database connected to our network, or otherwise violate the security of our network;
interfere with or disrupt (or attempt to interfere with or disrupt) the proper working of the Sites;
in the sole and absolute discretion of Institute, impose an unreasonable or disproportionately large load or burden on the Sites or our network, disrupt the normal flow of data, or threaten the stability of the Sites or our Network; or
engage in any conduct which, in the Institute’s sole and absolute discretion, diminishes the value of the Sites, infringes any proprietary rights in the Sites, or otherwise violates these Terms.
Consent to Communications
The Institute may contact you via the contact information you provide to sign up for a newsletter, the Institute mailing list, or through information provided through your initiation of contact (e.g., through the “Contact Us” feature of the Sites or by submitting a job application). By providing such contact information, you consent to receive communications from Institute via that contact information. We may use your email address to send you information about the Sites. You may opt-out of such email by using the “unsubscribe” link in the message. You will continue to receive communications related to any events or programs for which you have registered.
Intellectual Property
All content on the Sites—including but not limited to text, photography, reports, publications, graphics, logos, audio, video, and software—is the property of the Milken Institute or its content providers and other affiliates, and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
You may:
- Access and view content for limited personal, non-commercial use.
- Share content by linking to it or using sharing tools provided on the Sites.
- Download or reproduce select materials for limited educational or non-commercial use, provided proper attribution is given and the material is not altered in any way.
You may not:
- Modify, copy, distribute, reproduce, republish, create derivative works, upload, post, or transmit any content for commercial purposes without prior written consent from us.
Nothing in these Terms establishes a license for you to use the Institute’s brand identifiers, including its marks or logos, without the prior written consent of the Institute.
User Contributions
If you submit or post any comments, feedback, or other content to any Site (“User Content”), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute such content in any medium, subject to our Privacy Policy.
You are solely responsible for your User Content and must ensure it does not violate any applicable law or infringe on the rights of others.
Third-Party Links and Resources
Our Sites may contain links to third-party websites, services, or resources. These links are provided for your convenience only. We do not control or endorse any third-party content and are not responsible for the accuracy, legality, or content of those sites. Your use of any third-party resources linked on our Sites is at your own risk. We encourage you to review the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy of any third-party sites.
Accessibility
The Milken Institute is committed to making our digital content accessible to all users. While our recent website redesign improved overall accessibility, we recognize that some areas may still present challenges. Our team continues to make ongoing improvements and works hard to ensure content is as accessible as possible. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Sites and all content are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranty of any kind, either express or implied. We make no warranties or representations about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of the Sites or their content.
We disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the Sites will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Milken Institute expressly disclaims any liability for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your access to or use of (or inability to use) the Sites or any content therein.
This limitation includes damages resulting from viruses, errors, inaccuracies, or loss of data.
Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the Milken Institute, its directors, officers, employees, and affiliates from and against any claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including attorneys’ fees) arising from your use of the Sites, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any intellectual property or other rights.

International Users
The Milken Institute Site is controlled and operated from the United States, as many of the other Sites. All sites are accessible from some locations outside the United States (unless prohibited by law). If you access any Site from outside the United States, you are responsible for compliance with local laws and regulations. You may not use any Site in any jurisdiction that does not give effect to these Terms.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Washington, the District of Columbia, of the United States of America (“Washington, D.C.”), without regard to its conflict of law provisions. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Washington, D.C., to resolve any legal matter arising from these Terms or your use of the Sites.
Termination
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to suspend or terminate your access to any or all of the Sites at any time and for any reason, including but not limited to violation of these Terms.
Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the Institute regarding use of the Sites and supersede any prior agreements or understandings.
