Chris Mahone, PhD

Chris Mahone, PhD, is a senior associate at the Milken Institute Center for Strategic Philanthropy. In his role, he uses his deep background in cell biology and biochemistry to advise philanthropic partners on effective grant operations to maximize the impact of their programs. Prior to joining the Institute, Mahone interned with the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund, developing promotional materials to highlight investigational researchers, particularly with lay audiences, and advocating for additional funding for regenerative medicine technologies. Before this, Mahone worked as a laboratory technician at the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, supporting biodefense efforts primarily regarding botulinum neurotoxin and Ebola virus, experiences that highlight his scientific flexibility. Mahone received his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Hood College and a doctorate in biological chemistry from Johns Hopkins University. He is based in the Institute’s Washington, DC office.
