Director, producer, writer, and game designer Donald Mustard is the creative visionary behind some of the most profitable and groundbreaking entertainment franchises in history. He is best known for creating Fortnite (2017-Present), the Infinity Blade trilogy (2010-2014), and Shadow Complex (2009).
During his previous tenure as Chief Creative Officer of Epic Games, Donald’s direction and guidance built Fortnite into a cultural phenomenon that currently boasts over 650 million players with over 20 billion dollars in revenue. Fortnite has more than 250 million average monthly players as of 2023 and 25 million players use Fortnite daily.
Donald spearheaded innovative collaborations with some of the biggest names and best-known IP’s in entertainment with in-game concerts by EDM DJ Marshmello (10.7 million players attended live in Fortnite alone), Travis Scott (45 million live viewers), and other inspired talent-lead partnerships with the likes of the Russo Brothers, Dwayne Johnson, Ariana Grande, and J.J. Abrams.
Prior to Fortnite, Donald and his team created the groundbreaking Infinity Blade mobile games, which were the first to incorporate Epic’s powerful Unreal Engine technology onto mobile platforms. At the Apple Special Event in Sept 2010, Donald joined Steve Jobs to introduce Infinity Blade as the most radical step forward in the history of mobile gaming and the cornerstone of Apple’s soon-to-be-launched Game Center. Infinity Blade and its sequels have sold over 100 million copies, winning dozens of “Game of the Year” and “Editor’s Choice” awards and becoming one of the most popular mobile game franchises of all time.
In 2005, Donald co-founded ChAIR Entertainment, which became an acquired subsidiary of Epic Games in 2008. ChAIR’s ‘Modern and Masterful’ sidescroller Shadow Complex was released in 2009 on Xbox. Its commercial success was only eclipsed by its wide critical acclaim, winning more than 50 Game of the Year awards.
