Corey Carlisle is the Head of Public Policy for Varo Bank, the first consumer fintech to be granted a national banking charter in 2020. Varo aims to address a broad range of consumer needs while serving underserved communities that have been traditionally excluded from the traditional financial system. In this role, Mr. Carlisle is responsible for overseeing Varo’s global public policy functions, including activities that support the bank’s impact-focused mission and the Communities Reinvestment Act, as well as championing banking innovation driving financial inclusion and financial well-being with policymakers and industry stakeholders.

Mr. Carlisle is chairperson of the board of directors for the JumpStart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy. He is also on the board of directors of the American Fintech Council and served on a number of boards and coalitions advancing advocacy in the fields of consumer financial well-being and community revitalization. Before joining Varo, he was a Senior Vice President at the American Bankers Association and Executive Director of the ABA Foundation. Mr. Carlisle began his career on Capitol Hill working for former Senator Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) and went on to work for several large banks and a nonprofit community development financial institution. He received his bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He holds certifications as an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC ®) from the Association for Financial Counseling & Planning Education and in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University.
