Happiness and Sustainability: Changing Our Approach to Growth

-

We live in a world that often values output, busyness, and economic growth over subjective outcomes such as human joy. This panel explores the sustainability of economic growth from the perspective of happiness, discussing ways in which employers, investors, and communities can shift their approach to growth to achieve long-term, lasting human well-being. We take a scientific approach to happiness, incorporating lessons from economics, psychiatry, and neuroscience to discuss concerns such as sustainability, mental health, and societal changes resulting in growing loneliness and isolation. This panel will explore practical changes to our definition of outcomes and success, as well as daily strategies we can use to achieve a meaningful life and sustainable happiness as individuals and communities.
