Steven Ciobo
Steven Ciobo is a senior fellow within the International pillar at the Milken Institute. During his tenure as a senior cabinet minister, he also started and completed the Peru–Australia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the Hong Kong–Australia FTA. He also launched FTA negotiations with the European Union and led Australia to become the first country to establish a negotiating framework for a post-Brexit FTA with the United Kingdom.
Ciobo served in Australia’s Parliament for nearly 18 years, holding several senior ministerial roles, including positions in the defense industry, international development and the Pacific, and as parliamentary secretary to the treasurer.
He is a senior leader with extensive experience in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and media management. Ciobo has worked in one of the most high-profile environments with unparalleled accountability. He possesses deep knowledge of domestic and international governments and has established global relationships across the public and private sectors.
As Australia's minister for trade, tourism, and investment, Ciobo pursued one of the most ambitious trade and investment agendas. He negotiated and secured economic-boosting agreements by completing the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Indonesia–Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
Ciobo retired from politics at the May 2019 federal election and now works in an advisory role in private equity and asset management.
