Bumyang Kim, PhD, is an associate director of health economics research in the Health pillar of the Milken Institute, where he leads data-driven, evidence-based research to advance health equity and reduce disparities in health care access and delivery. His work leverages a wide range of real-world data—including observational studies, registries, national surveys, administrative claims, and electronic medical records—to evaluate health policy, improve service delivery, and support underserved and vulnerable populations.

Kim brings deep expertise in data science, economic modeling, geospatial analytics, and statistical analysis. His recent work at the Milken Institute includes examining disparities in clinical trial access under FDA Section 801E, analyzing mammography availability for early breast cancer detection, projecting the long-term economic burden of dementia, and evaluating national health literacy assessments to guide future policy.

His broader research spans topics such as health technology diffusion, health outcomes research, and public health program evaluation. Prior to joining the Institute, Kim spent nearly a decade at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he conducted economic and geospatial analyses of cancer care delivery. He holds a PhD in health economics and health services research from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and a master of health administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
