Dr. Sumera Haque is a globally recognized leader in women’s and global health, with over two decades of experience as a senior healthcare executive across the U.S., Middle East, and South Asia. Dr. Haque was recently named Senior Advisor for the Middle East and South Asia at the Milken Institute Women’s Health Network, chaired by Dr. Jill Biden. She is the Founder and CEO of the An-Nisa Foundation, a nonprofit organization advancing women’s health in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In 2024, she was named a Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Commitment Maker for launching a women’s health and equity initiative.
She recently served as the Group Chief Medical Officer of Sheikh Khalifa hospitals in the Northern Emirates, an initiative of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs. In 2018, Dr. Haque was appointed to develop and lead the Johns Hopkins Women’s Health Center in Washington DC. The innovative center she spearheaded in the National Capital Region serves women throughout their life journey.
A physician from Pakistan, Dr. Haque holds a Master’s degree from the George Washington University, Milken Institute School of Public Health. She currently serves as a Faculty Advisor at the GWU Global Women’s Institute. Dr. Haque was honored as a Presidential Leadership Scholar in 2019. Her immigrant success story and women’s health work were featured in President George W. Bush’s book “Out of Many, One”. Her commitment to women’s empowerment has earned her numerous accolades, including the Shero Award from Senator Barbara Mikulski in 2007.
