Dr. Carlos Serrano Herrera, Chief Economist of BBVA Mexico, holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, in the United States. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
He currently serves as Chief Economist of BBVA Mexico and is a member of the bank’s Asset and Liability Committee, where he also oversees the Regulatory Committee.
Previously, he served as Vice President of Regulatory Policy at the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV). He was also Managing Director for Mexico at Ambac Assurance Corporation and Deputy General Director of Credit and Guarantees at the Federal Mortgage Society (SHF).
He has worked at both the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
In academia, he has taught at ITAM at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
He was awarded the National Economics Prize by Banco Nacional de México in 1999.
