Alicia Seiger builds solutions at the frontier of climate action where science, technology, policy, and finance intersect. Over three decades, she has brought an entrepreneurial, systems-level perspective to the decarbonization challenge across early-stage innovation, institutional investment, corporate strategy, and public policy.
She currently directs the climate program at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and is a Visiting Scholar at Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. Previously, she led sustainability and energy finance initiatives across Stanford's law, business, and sustainability schools where she taught and published on climate-related innovation. She has advised policymakers, executives, and institutional investors on strategies to manage climate risk and opportunities. Earlier in her career, Alicia served on the executive team at TerraPass, one of the first carbon offset retailers.
Her book, Settling Climate Accounts: Navigating the Road to Net Zero, examines the rise of “net zero” as the dominant organizing principle of climate action, identifies ways it will struggle to add up, and offers prescriptions for the road ahead. Her current work focuses on building foundations to support large-scale and durable markets for decarbonization and carbon removal.
Alicia serves on the boards of Prime Coalition and the E-Ledger Institute and on the National Academy of Sciences Roundtable on AI and Climate Change. She holds a BA from Duke University and an MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.
