Jay Brown

Chief of Staff, Human Rights Campaign

Jay Brown is an innovative non-profit leader with over 20 years of experience advancing LGBTQ+ equality. He currently serves as Chief of Staff at the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest civil rights organization working for the liberation of LGBTQ+ people. In this role, Jay partners closely with HRC President Kelley Robinson, staff, and volunteer leaders to drive the organization’s mission forward. Previously, Jay served as Senior Vice President of HRC’s Foundation programs, leading work to ensure equality across workplaces, schools, healthcare systems, and communities. He oversaw leadership development programs, advocacy initiatives, and a global research portfolio that deepened understanding of LGBTQ+ lives. A longtime advocate for transgender justice and an out transgender man, Jay brings a personal and powerful perspective to his work. He frequently speaks to national audiences and the media, with appearances on CNN, MSNBC, BBC, NPR, and in The Washington Post, AP, and The New York Times. Jay lives in Maryland with his spouse, Kendra, and their two children.
