Emily Current is the Co-Founder and Creative Director of the global lifestyle brand Emily + Meritt and women's apparel line THE GREAT, both of which, she created with her business partner of almost two decades Meritt Elliott. The duo are recognized for creating the "boyfriend" jean fit that disrupted the denim industry when men dominated denim. In 2008, they launched denim brand Current/Elliott against the advice of industry experts who said women would never wear that style. The line catapulted into overnight success becoming an instant obsession with consumers, celebrities, and editors. After exiting Current/Elliott in 2012, they made their first venture in the home design arena, collaborating with Pottery Barn. They have also collaborated with brands like Kate Spade and The Honest Company. In 2018, they opened their first brick and mortar store THE GREAT in Los Angeles and launched Emily + Meritt, a collection of friendship themed soft-knits, paper goods and accessories. In December, Emily and Meritt spearheaded the LA launch of the "Female Founder Collective," an initiative started in NYC by Rebecca Minkoff to help form a network of businesses led by women that support women.
