
Nancy J. Brown, M.D. is Jean and David W. Wallace Dean of Yale School of Medicine and C.N.H. Long Professor of Internal Medicine. Prior to 2020, Dr. Brown served as Chair of the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University, where she established herself as a national leader in the development of infrastructure to support physician-scientists. She founded the Vanderbilt Master of Science in Clinical Investigation program, served as Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Scientist Development, and as Director of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology. Dr. Brown’s NIH-funded research focuses on cardiovascular pharmacology and vascular biology in humans. Her work has advanced the understanding of anti-hypertensive and anti-diabetic drug mechanisms to optimize cardiometabolic benefit.
Dr. Brown received her A. B. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale and M.D. from Harvard. She completed clinical training in internal medicine and fellowship in clinical pharmacology at Vanderbilt. Dr Brown is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, Association of American Physicians, National Academy of Medicine, and American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She served on the National Advisory Research Resources Council and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Advisory Council, and on the visiting committee of Harvard Medical School. Dr. Brown sits on the Board of Trust of Keystone Symposia and on the Scientific Advisory Board for Alnylam Pharmaceuticals.
