Cecilia Tortajada

Professor in Practice, Environmental Innovation, University of Glasgow

Professor Cecilia Tortajada is Professor in Practice of Environmental Innovation, at the School of Social and Environmental Sustainability, University of Glasgow, UK, and Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Environment and Sustainability, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, Singapore. She has 25 years of research, teaching, and consulting experience in water, environment, and natural resources management within the framework of sustainable development. Her current research includes the impacts of global change on water, food, the environment, and societies. In 2024, she received an honorary Doctor of Science in Technology degree from Aalto University, Finland, for her important contributions to water and development research and education. She is the recipient of the Crystal Drop Award in 2016 and the 50th Anniversary Award in 2021 of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA). She is a member of the International Selection Committee of the Millennium Technology Prize awarded by Technology Academy Finland; the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships Peer Review College, UK; the OECD Initiative on Water Governance. Prof. Tortajada is the Past President of the Third World Centre for Water Management, Mexico, and the first and only woman President of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA) in its over 50 years of history. As a prolific author, her work has been translated into Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish languages.
