Peter Long

Executive Vice President, Health Solutions, Chief Strategy Officer, Blue Shield of California

Peter Long is executive vice president, strategy and health solutions, at Blue Shield of California, a nonprofit health plan with over $24 billion in annual revenue serving over 4.8 million members in the state's commercial, individual, and government markets. Long leads collaborations with healthcare providers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to design innovative clinical and community programs, healthcare delivery, and payment systems that provide all Californians access to value-based, high-quality, and affordable care. Previously, Long was president and chief executive officer of Blue Shield of California Foundation, where he focused on building lasting and equitable solutions to make California the healthiest state and to end domestic violence. His broad career background includes extensive experience working on health policy issues at the state and national levels and has written numerous papers and chapters on a variety of health policy topics. His research and 20+ publications have been groundbreaking in healthcare reform and community development. Long has co-authored 3 NAM reports, including: Digital Health, Recommendations for Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services, and Strategies to Improve Population health in the United States. Long is a member of several boards, including Integrated Healthcare Association, California Quality Collaborative, California Association of Health Plans, Manifest Medex, PriMed (Hill Physicians Managed Services Organization), National Academy of Science and Medicine, and Learning Health Systems group.
