Stay Ahead of Change with Trust, Clarity, and Courage to Act

Leadership today is based on three non-negotiable pillars: trust, clarity, and the courage to act. In a world of rapid technological shifts, geopolitical uncertainty, and shifting societal expectations, we cannot rely on titles or protocols to legitimize our role. We must earn the right to lead, and the trust to be followed, every single day. For me, and for us at Tikehau Capital, true leadership means building trust, providing direction, making bold decisions that stand up to scrutiny, and creating rather than competing.

Leading with Trust

Trust is the bedrock of modern leadership. In an environment saturated with noise and ambiguity, trust anchors teams and institutions. Trust is earned through consistency, transparency, and empathy. We must deliver results, of course, but also show humanity and understanding. When people trust us, they step up, take ownership, and innovate in ways that transcend formal structures: they are empowered!

My conviction is straightforward: Trust breeds empowerment, and empowerment fuels performance. At Tikehau Capital, we are committed to “think ahead.” By anticipating both challenges and opportunities, and openly sharing this outlook with our teams, we build the trust key to long-term success.

Providing Clarity

The more complex the world, the more we must provide clarity. Leadership is not about having all the answers, but about giving direction and calm when paths are uncertain. Our job is to define a compelling vision, align people on a shared purpose, and continuously explain the “why.” Clarity is not about oversimplification, but about connecting dots among fast-moving markets, new technologies, and human needs.

We zoom out to grasp global patterns, then zoom in to act decisively. “Be on the ball” reminds us to stay alert and engaged. I have seen time and time again that people are resilient when they know what they are aiming for and why it matters. Vision gives work meaning, and meaning sustains engagement through uncertainty.

We must earn the right to lead, and the trust to be followed, every single day.

Putting People First

Strategies succeed or fail on the strength of human connection. Proximity, empathy, and a genuine presence are as vital as technical skills. We must be accessible, available, and willing to listen. Sensing team dynamics and embracing diverse perspectives distinguish outstanding leaders.

Listening is only meaningful if it translates into action, adapting when necessary, or having the courage to start difficult but vital conversations. Accountability and decisiveness give listening its weight. We continually remind ourselves to “raise the standards,” expecting more of ourselves and our teams.

Deciding and Owning It

We will never have perfect information. Data are crucial, but intuition and courage must guide us forward. Combining analysis with sound judgment and a willingness to decide, even when the path is unclear, is essential to good leadership. Integrity, transparency, and fairness build credibility for every decision we make. We must be ready to admit mistakes, learn quickly, and invite challenge.

Diversity of perspectives, open debate, and a growth mindset drive organizational progress. We seek not to imitate the market, but to create distinctive solutions, pioneering new approaches that inspire our teams and leave a lasting mark, living our principle: “create, don’t compete.”

Challenging, Learning, Adapting

Curiosity is our engine for progress. By challenging assumptions, seeking fresh perspectives, and embracing the unknown, we stay ahead of change. “Be curious” is more than a motto; it is how we guard against complacency, spot new opportunities, and continually reinvent ourselves as the world evolves. No other ways than to get out of our comfort zone!
