As the recent Commission on the National Defense Strategy summarized: “The US last fought a global conflict during World War II; the nation was last prepared for such a fight during the Cold War. It is not prepared today.” Even before the strains of helping Ukraine equip and supply its forces defending against Russian invasion, US military preparedness—under both Republican and Democratic administrations—was falling behind. What must we do to catch up? And to what extent can US national tech titans come to the rescue?
