This session builds on conversations held across the Milken Institute’s global signature events and alongside preparations for COP28 (UN Climate Change Conference 2023), where food systems are a growing focus. Despite 30 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions resulting from food systems activities, only 3 percent of public climate financing is directed toward addressing them. Reframing the goals of climate financing to include investments in food systems will require global public-private collaboration. Particularly in nations grappling with concerns about food security amid a changing climate, investments in climate-smart innovations related to food production and distribution are essential. Panelists representing a range of investment perspectives will discuss the imperative and business cases for investing in food systems to address climate change and food as national security.
