Nidup Tshering Dorji

Investment Officer, Department of Foreign Exchange and Reserve Management, Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan; IFC-Milken Institute Capital Markets Scholar

Nidup Tshering Dorji is an investment officer at the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan, where he helps manage the country's sovereign reserves and shape foreign exchange policy. His work sits at the intersection of macroeconomic policy and institutional finance, bringing careful, data-driven thinking to one of the world's more distinctive sovereign mandates. His focus is on mobilizing capital in frontier economies. He has led initiatives contributing to USD 19 million in capital preservation and a 67 basis point improvement in annualized portfolio returns, driven by stronger frameworks, better risk discipline, and close collaboration with external fund managers.

Most recently, Nidup spearheaded the Bhutanese Living Abroad Investment Initiative a program that transforms diaspora remittances into structured investment opportunities through dedicated financial products, high-yield deposits, and direct capital market access. The initiative mobilized over USD 24 million in its first year and has drawn interest as a model for other frontier economies. A recipient of the IFC–Milken Institute Capital Markets Program Scholarship, Nidup completed a graduate program in Capital Markets at Georgetown University and interned at Cambridge Associates in Washington DC.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance with Dean's List honors. His interests lie in global capital flows, frontier market development, and expanding investment access in emerging economies.
