James Esland

James is Head of Diversified Alternatives in QIC’s State Investments team, reporting to the State Chief Investment Officer, Allison Hill. He oversees hedge funds, alternative risk premia, insurance-linked securities and trend strategies. James has over 17 years’ experience across investment management and financial markets, with a multi-asset background spanning absolute return investing, asset allocation and strategy design. He joined QIC in 2022, having previously held roles at Citi and Standard Life Investments (now abrdn). James holds an MA (Hons) in Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh and is a CFA Charterholder.
