Global Financial Scholars Programs
Overview
Robust financial markets play a crucial role in supporting private-sector-led growth, job creation, financial security, and the sustainable funding of national development priorities. Through two flagship training programs, we work with governments and the World Bank Group to train, inform, and empower the next generation of financial policymakers and public-sector fund managers who can effectively drive financial market reforms and foster shared prosperity for all.
Meet Our AlumGlobal Community of Financial Market Leaders
Since 2016, scholars from 60 countries and 90+ government institutions have taken part, often returning to accelerated career paths after completing our programs in Washington, DC and London.

Our Global Financial Scholars Programs are made possible with the kind engagement of our corporate partners who help fund tuition, share market insights, and host our scholars as interns. Special thanks goes to our program underwriters, The Motsepe Foundation, Input Output Global and Circle; and to members of our Africa Leaders Business Council for their support of the Milken Institute’s broader work in Africa.

IFC–Milken Institute Capital Markets Program
Since 2016, in partnership with the International Finance Corporation and with the kind support of the Motsepe Foundation, we have trained over 300 Capital Market Scholars from finance ministries, central banks, stock exchanges, and financial regulatory bodies across more than 60 developing and emerging economies. The training program includes four months of accredited business school coursework at Georgetown University in Washington, DC followed by four months of hands-on work placements in the US financial industry. Once they return home, our alumni lay the groundwork for economic development, job creation, and business opportunity around the world.

World Bank–Milken Institute Public Financial Asset Management Program
To further strengthen the ecosystem of financial leaders, in 2022 we launched a training program for sovereign wealth funds, public pension funds, pension fund regulators, and central banks. Developed in partnership with World Bank Treasury and Bayes Business School, City University of London, this initiative aims to build excellence in public financial asset management, strategy, and governance across developing and emerging markets—helping ensure that the dividends of economic growth and natural resources fully benefit future generations.
