Fighting for Freedom: Global Voices for Democracy

-

In the interconnected world of 2026, with the media highlighting regional conflicts, human rights abuses, and judicial erosion, it is clear that democracy is fragile and under attack by external and internal forces. Amid these anti-democratic trends and declining democratic values, however, there is a strong, hopeful counter-narrative. Worldwide, people living under authoritarian regimes are pushing back, their voices cutting through the noise. This session spotlights the experiences of civilian actors from diverse corners of the globe who are at the forefront of fighting for fundamental freedoms and defending democracy. Their stories of resistance against corrupt institutions and governments offer proof of their unwavering commitment to freedom and to building democracy for their fellow citizens. Join us as we examine the grassroots movements shaping the future of democracy on a global scale.
