Food and Finance Leaders: Investing in Sustainable Food Systems (Invite only)

-

Experts in this session will discuss the key opportunities to incentivize and invest in nature-based solutions that drive sustainable food-systems transformation. Food systems—the way we produce, market, and consume food—are not only responsible for 30 percent of all global greenhouse gas emissions but are major causes of deforestation, pollution of air and water, and biodiversity loss. According to the Food System Economic Commission, the total global cost to human health and the environment is an estimated US$10-$15 trillion annually. Despite this, funding to transform food systems is only approximately 4 percent of climate finance investment. According to a United Nations 2023 report, an increase to $200-500 billion will be needed annually over the next decade to achieve food-systems transformation. To mobilize this financing, participation from a diverse array of investors is imperative. This roundtable will feature finance experts and leaders from across the food system to discuss the key opportunities, solutions, and investments needed to improve the sustainability and resiliency of the food supply chain for public and planetary health.
