James W. “Wells” Hutchison is President & CEO of the Delta Dental Plans Association, which leads the nation’s largest dental insurance brand covering over 80 million customers. Wells is passionate about elevating the role of oral health in overall health and supporting research, philanthropy, and strategic partnerships to address disparities in health outcomes. Hutchison is working to build relationships with healthcare leaders and launching collaborative, market-focused solutions to support Delta Dental’s mission of expanding access to oral healthcare. In 2021 and 2022 he was recognized as one of the most influential people in dentistry by Incisal Edge magazine. Hutchison previously served as General Counsel for DDPA and has worked with the Delta Dental System for 20 years. At the Chicago-based law firm of Katten Muchin Rosenman, he served as co-chair of the health care litigation practice and was twice recognized as Pro Bono Attorney of the Year by the Center for Disability and Elder Law. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University and Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law. Hutchison lives in Chicago with his wife and two sons.
