Farouk Kamal

Deputy Group CEO, AirAsia X Berhad
Farouk Kamal is the Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AirAsia X Berhad. He oversees various group functions including Finance, Operations, Corporate Finance, Aircraft Leasing, Legal, Investor Relations and Sustainability. He also provides oversight for Internal Audit and Risk Management for the Aviation Group. He joined the Group on 8 January 2024 as Deputy Group CEO (Corporate) under AirAsia Aviation Group. Farouk has over 20 years of experience in investment banking, corporate finance, equity research and equity trading. He has worked at leading global financial institutions including Deutsche Bank, J.P. Morgan and Credit Suisse. Prior to joining AirAsia, he served as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Urusharta Jamaah, a Government-Linked Investment Company (GLIC), where he was responsible for managing and rehabilitating assets valued at over RM10 billion. Farouk has advised clients on numerous mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, equity and equity-linked transactions, as well as debt capital market transactions, and was involved in several landmark deals in Malaysia. Farouk holds an MSc in Finance and Economics and a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
