Deborah Wong is CNA’s China Correspondent, based in Shenzhen. She was part of the pioneering team that established CNA’s bureau there and now leads coverage from Southern China. She reports extensively on developments across the region, with a particular focus on the Greater Bay Area, technology and the economy. Her coverage tracks China’s rapid advancements in robotics, electric vehicles, the low-altitude economy and the commercial space industry, and examines their far-reaching geopolitical implications. Deborah has reported on major historic events, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s 2025 Tianjin Summit and Beijing’s largest military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Previously, Deborah served as CNA’s Hong Kong Correspondent, where she covered the city’s most severe COVID-19 wave, post-pandemic recovery and the Chief Executive Election. She continues to report on Hong Kong as part of her Southern China beat, with recent frontline coverage of the Tai Po fire, the 2025 Legislative Council Elections and the Jimmy Lai trial.
