Ambassador Mike Waltz serves as the 32nd U.S. Representative to the United Nations. A former Congressman representing Northeast Florida, Ambassador Waltz served as the National Security Advisor to President Donald Trump, a combat-decorated U.S. Army Green Beret, and has also been a small business owner and author. Most importantly, Ambassador Waltz is a proud husband and father.
At the United Nations, Ambassador Waltz is leading President Trump’s effort to return the UN to its core mission: diplomacy, burden sharing, peace, security, and lifesaving assistance. He has spearheaded major reforms to reduce wasteful spending and streamline peacekeeping missions—including the UN’s first major budget cut in its existence.
Ambassador Waltz has also been a leading voice against anti-American and antisemitic bias at the UN and has championed international religious freedom and the plight of persecuted Christian communities around the world.
Waltz has also worked from his post in New York to build broad international coalitions to address crises in Gaza, Haiti, and Sudan, as well as threats to maritime security and global commerce in the Middle East.
In 2018, Waltz became the first Green Beret elected to Congress. In this role, he chaired the Readiness subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee, and was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He also served on the China and Trump Assassination Task Forces before stepping down from this post to serve in the Trump Administration.
The Ambassador has served his country his entire life. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute as a Distinguished Military Graduate with Honors, served 27 years in the U.S. Army, retiring at the rank of Colonel. After being commissioned as an Army lieutenant, Ambassador Waltz graduated Ranger School and was selected for the elite Green Berets, serving worldwide as a Special Forces officer with multiple combat tours in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Africa. For his actions in combat, he was awarded four Bronze Stars, including two for Valor.
Ambassador Waltz’s leadership continued in the Pentagon as a defense policy director for two Secretaries of Defense. He then went on to serve in the White House as a senior policy advisor. The Ambassador’s experiences as a soldier and policymaker inspired him to write Warrior Diplomat: A Green Beret’s Battles from Washington to Afghanistan, a firsthand account of combat and national security decision-making; Hard Truths: Think and Lead Like a Green Beret, a USA Today bestseller on leadership, valor, resilience, and service; and Dawn of the Brave, a children’s book which explores courage, sacrifice, and teamwork. Proceeds from his books continue to benefit veterans’ charities.
After serving on active duty and before being elected to Congress, Ambassador Waltz served as partner and CEO of Metis Solutions, a services company that provided advanced training, analytics, and operational support to the U.S. government and allied partners worldwide. Under his leadership, the company quickly grew to over 400 employees and was repeatedly listed in the Inc. 500 index as one of the fastest-growing private companies in America.
As a former Fox News Channel contributor, the Ambassador provided expert commentary on foreign policy, defense, and business issues to viewers around the world.
Ambassador Waltz has a daughter and a young son. He is married to Dr. Julia Nesheiwat, a combat veteran who served in the first Trump administration as Homeland Security Advisor.
