Laurel Broten

The Honourable Laurel Broten is the CEO of Invest in Canada, the Government of Canada agency responsible for foreign direct investment (FDI) promotion and attraction. Since assuming this role in 2022, she has positioned Canada on the world stage as the best country to do business. In an increasingly competitive FDI landscape, Laurel works to secure investment that grows Canada’s economy in priority industries from coast to coast to coast.

Laurel brings 30 years of leadership experience to this role, including service in both the public and private sectors. Her expertise spans economic development and inclusive growth, environmental sustainability, and fiscal and regulatory responsibility. A lawyer and legislator, former Cabinet minister in the Government of Ontario and public policy consultant, Laurel served as President and CEO of Nova Scotia’s provincial investment attraction and export development agency for eight years prior to joining Invest in Canada.

Before her election to the Ontario legislature in 2003, Laurel graduated with distinction with a Juris Doctor degree from Western University and practiced as a commercial and civil litigation lawyer with 3 leading Canadian law firms.
