Jacob Helberg currently serves as the 22nd Undersecretary of State for Economic Affairs. He was previously an Advisor to the Council of Economic Advisors at the White House. Jacob founded The Hill & Valley Forum, a bipartisan coalition of Silicon Valley executives and U.S. lawmakers, which became a major force in bridging the knowledge gap between Silicon Valley and Capitol Hill. Jacob has worked with Congressional leaders to raise awareness about the national security risks posed by China. Jacob served as Senior Advisor to the CEO of Palantir Technologies and is an early investor in several fast-growing tech companies. From 2022 to 2024, he was a Commissioner on the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, advocating for tariffs and industrial independence from China. Jacob previously served as Google’s global lead for Search policy and was part of the founding team at GeoQuant. Jacob authored The Wires of War: Technology and the Global Struggle for Power (Simon & Schuster, 2021), calling for a stronger U.S. strategy against China’s technological ambitions, and was a Senior Advisor at Stanford University’s Program on Geopolitics and Technology. He holds an M.S. in cybersecurity risk and strategy from NYU, speaks fluent French, and is the grandson of two Holocaust survivors.
