Gianni Infantino was first elected FIFA President at the Extraordinary FIFA Congress on 26 February 2016. Since his election, he has led the institution into a new era of stability, transparency and prosperity, thus ensuring that FIFA is a well-respected and trusted global governing body. His presidency has focused on bringing wide-ranging good governance reforms to FIFA, expanding global participation in FIFA’s flagship competitions and, thanks to unprecedented financial results since 2016, boosting FIFA’s investment in football development for all sevenfold through the FIFA Forward Programme. During his ten-year tenure as FIFA President, FIFA has signed partnerships and collaboration agreements with a number of intergovernmental institutions – such as UNESCO, the World Health Organization, the World Trade Organization, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the African Union, the Council of Europe, the Caribbean Community and the Pacific Islands Forum – with the aim of using the unifying power of football as a tool to help tackle global challenges. Giovanni Vincenzo Infantino, under his full name, was born on 23 March 1970 and fluently speaks six languages.
