Choon Tay

Choon Chong Tay is the Founder and Managing Partner of Vertex China, where he oversees over US$1.7 billion in Assets Under Management (AUM). A veteran of the venture capital industry, Mr. Tay has spent over 25 years at the intersection of cross-border investment and operational leadership. Under his leadership, Vertex China has become a primary architect of transformative innovation, securing early-stage positions in over 10 unicorns. Notable portfolio successes include Unitree (humanoid robotics), SES AI (NYSE: SES), Horizon Robotics (HKEX: 9660), Geek+ (HKEX: 02590), AgileX, Lightelligence and Edgemedical (HKEX: 2675).

Prior to Vertex, Mr. Tay was Senior Vice President at GIC Special Investments, directing strategic private equity allocations. His operational expertise was honed as SVP at ST Engineering (SGX: S63), where he led global aerospace expansion and orchestrated the landmark acquisition of SAS Component. He began his VC career in 2000 with FVIG, bridging the Silicon Valley and Asian tech ecosystems.

An industry leader recognized for his performance, Mr. Tay has been featured on Forbes China’s TOP 100 Venture Capitalists annually since 2018, rising to the Top 12 in 2025. He holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a B.Eng. from Imperial College London.
