Andrew Smith joined Bayview in 2024 as a Managing Director and the Head of Commercial Real Estate Debt. Prior to joining Bayview, Andrew was a Senior Managing Director of Kayne Anderson Real Estate, where he served as the Head of Real Estate Debt and was the portfolio manager for the Kayne Anderson debt platform. In this role, Andrew was a member of the Investment Committee for all of Kayne Anderson’s real estate debt funds and was responsible for sourcing, underwriting, acquiring, and managing the portfolio of commercial real estate related debt and securities. Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 2014, Andrew was a portfolio manager and founding partner of Aqua Investment Management (“Aqua”) (subsequently portfolio manager at Exigent Capital Management, which acquired Aqua), a commercial real estate debt and securities investment and advisory firm. Prior to founding Aqua in 2008, Andrew served as vice president and senior securities analyst for Dividend Capital Group, where he underwrote and analyzed potential real estate loans, commercial mortgage-backed securities, CRE CDO and equity investments. Prior positions Andrew held include senior analyst for Newcastle Investment Corp. (Fortress Investment Group) and associate in the structured finance CMBS group at Ernst &Young, LLP. Andrew earned a B.S. with concentration in Finance from Cornell University.
