Alex Israel is a serial entrepreneur and the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Metropolis, an artificial intelligence company for the real world. Metropolis uses AI-enabled computer vision technology to create seamless, checkout-free experiences everywhere. Metropolis makes living, working and playing in cities remarkable. Backed by some of the world’s leading investors including Eldridge, BDT & MSD, Temasek, Silver Lake, Dragoneer and 3L Capital, Alex’s fundraising efforts have led Metropolis to raise close to $2B.In October 2023, Alex and Metropolis announced its $1.7B Series C and take-private acquisition of SP Plus. The landmark Growth Buyout of SP Plus made Metropolis the largest parking network in North America and has set a new paradigm for how tech companies scale. The Growth Buyout was the largest M&A transaction by a venture-backed company and was the third-largest AI deal behind OpenAI and Anthropic in 2023. This was Alex’s second acquisition following Metropolis’ 2022 purchase of Premier Parking. Under Alex’s leadership, Metropolis operates in 4,000+ locations across the United States, reaching 50+ million customers and processes over $4B in payments annually. Previously, Alex co-founded ParkMe which became the world’s most comprehensive dynamic, real-time parking database before it was acquired by global traffic intelligence company and Microsoft spinoff INRIX in 2015. Alex is an active angel investor and advisor to many startups, and a major supporter of the venture ecosystem in Los Angeles, where he resides.
