Carlos Serrano

Carlos Serrano is Chief Economist and Head of Research at BBVA Mexico. He obtained a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of California at Berkeley and a B.S. in Economics at Mexico ́s Autonomous Institute of Technology (ITAM). Previously, he served as Executive Vicepresident for Regulatory Policy at the Mexican Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) where he was responsible for designing regulations for banks, broker-dealers, mutual funds, rating agencies, and securities markets, among others. In that capacity, he represented Mexico before the Basel Committee. He was Country Manager for Mexico at Ambac Assurance Corporation. He has also worked as an economist at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. He has taught courses in Advanced Macroeconomics and Finance at ITAM. In 1999 he obtained the first prize in the National Award for Economic Research awarded annually by Banco Nacional de Mexico.
