Derek Asay

Senior Vice President, Government Strategy, Eli Lilly and Company
Derek Asay is Senior Vice President, Government Strategy and Federal Accounts at Lilly USA. His team is responsible for Lilly business strategy across all government segments, including Medicare, Medicaid, and 340B. Derek leads the ongoing Lilly relationship with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) across all Medicare and Medicaid business. He leads the strategy and implementation of all health care reform legislation and regulations from the Lilly business perspective, including with Health and Human Services (HHS) on drug pricing policies and drug pricing legislation such as the Inflation Reduction Act. Derek’s team is also responsible for health care reform education and engagement, both internally with Lilly employees and externally with payer and healthcare system customers. Derek regularly engages with policymakers as well as the leadership of large payers and health systems across the country on healthcare policy and drug pricing issues. Derek also led Lilly’s COVID-19 monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatment business in the U.S during the pandemic. Prior to joining Lilly in 1999, Derek served in numerous pharmaceutical sales, marketing and finance roles with Roche Pharmaceuticals. Derek holds an undergraduate degree in Economics and Political Science from Indiana University and a Master’s in Business Administration in Finance and Marketing from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University.
