Dougal Edwards

Founder, Bright Arena

Dougal Edwards is a former Senior Fellow at FasterCures and author of Breakthrough: How to Make Your Research Matter (2026). He has worked with more than a thousand researchers worldwide, from scientists leading their first laboratory to directors of major research institutes. Through that work, he developed an approach for making research legible to the people funding it, helping direct several hundred million dollars into medical research. His work addresses why capital struggles to identify, assess and back the researchers most likely to deliver breakthroughs. After fifteen years in the sector, and a previous career designing platforms that reshaped the finance and media industries, he concluded that the problem is not a lack of intent or appetite, but a lack of market infrastructure. He is the founder and CEO of Bright Arena, where he is building the shared infrastructure that enables philanthropic capital to find and back the research most likely to change lives.
