A natural talent with irresistible charm, Ross Butler continues to make an undeniable mark as he effortlessly evolves his body of work while redefining Asian representation in Hollywood.

Born in Singapore to a Chinese-Malaysian mother and American father and raised in Virginia after a brief time in Jakarta, Butler left engineering studies at Ohio State University to pursue acting in Los Angeles. From the outset, he committed to challenging stereotypical casting and advocating for more nuanced portrayals of Asian-American characters.

Butler rose to prominence as Zach Dempsey in Netflix’s global hit 13 Reasons Why, which remained one of the platform’s most-watched series across its four seasons. His television credits also include fan-favorite turns as Reggie Mantle in The CW’s Riverdale, Brett Willis in Disney Channel’s K.C. Undercover, roles in Teen Wolf and Chasing Life, and guest appearances in Major Crimes and Happyland.

On the big screen, Butler reprised his role as Trevor Pike in the final To All the Boys installment, part of the Netflix franchise that garnered over 80 million subscriber views worldwide. He voiced Spine Chief in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon, featuring the studio’s first Southeast Asian princess and earning a 94% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. 

In the DC Extended Universe, he stars as Superhero Eugene Choi in Shazam! and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, with the original film grossing over $363 million worldwide. His recent feature credits include leading roles in Perfect Addiction and Love in Taipei—the latter also marking his work as an executive producer.

In 2025, Butler reunites with Lana Condor in the romantic comedy Worth the Wait and will headline upcoming thrillers Zipline and Shiver.

Beyond acting, Butler is a classically trained pianist, skilled guitarist, and multilingual—fluent in English, conversational in Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic and currently learning Korean. An avid outdoorsman, he is passionate about scuba diving, motorcycles, motorsports, and golf (8 handicap), often crediting the game’s discipline for shaping his focus both on and off set.
