The Honorable Douglas A. Smith, Global Head of Public Affairs and Managing Director MENA Douglas A. Smith is a seasoned leader with 30 years of experience in high-level government service, national security, and the private sector. He also has a track record as a serial entrepreneur. As Global Head of Public Affairs and Managing Director for MENA at The Nuclear Company, Douglas oversees international government relations, public affairs strategy, and regional expansion across the Middle East and North Africa. In this role, he champions clean, safe, and sustainable energy solutions to advance global net-zero goals. Prior to joining The Nuclear Company, Douglas was the Global Head of Public Affairs for Orchard Global, an alternative asset manager. He focused on the intersection of national security, investment, and global financial stability. Earlier in his career, Douglas was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as the Assistant Secretary for the Private Sector at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). He advised the Secretary on the impact of DHS policies on millions of private sector companies and led private sector engagement across all 22 divisions. During his tenure, he expanded DHS’s global footprint, leading delegations to over 40 countries to strengthen global supply chains. He was also instrumental in launching key initiatives such as Global Entry, TSA PreCheck and the national Mobile Alert System.
