Douglas Midland

Regional Managing Director, Indonesia, U.S. Development Finance Corporation

Douglas Midland is the founding Managing Director of the DFC’s Indonesia office, overseeing the agency’s business development and origination activities across debt, equity, and political risk insurance products in Indonesia. He is based in Jakarta. Prior to his appointment as DFC Representative in Indonesia, Douglas worked in the finance division within DFC’s Structured Finance and Insurance Department where he underwrote financing for eligible projects across a range of sectors and geographies. As part of his longstanding work to advance the U.S. Government’s Indo-Pacific strategy, Douglas was sent to Tokyo, Japan in 2019 on a 9-month assignment to serve as Director of the DFC’s initiative to enhance our coordination and co-financing with Japanese and Australian counterparts. Prior to joining OPIC (the DFC’s predecessor) in 2014, Douglas worked at Morgan Stanley & Co. in New York, spending time in both the private banking group for high net-worth individuals and family L.P.’s, and middle markets institutional sales and trading. Douglas is a fellow and member of the Next Generation Council at SR21, a non-profit research and assessment group focused on developing a comprehensive, long-term national strategy in the Asia-Pacific based on America’s core values. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Mandarin Chinese and East Asian History from Georgetown University, which included a one-year term at Beijing University, and a Master’s of Arts in International Relations and Economics from John’s Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
