Alex Bacchus

Alex Bacchus MSc, BE (Honours) is the Acting Chief Investment Officer at the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation where he is responsible for overseeing the investment teams. Prior to this role, he was the Head of Strategic Tilting, where he led the team running the Fund’s dynamic asset allocation program, the largest active risk strategy employed by the Guardians. During his time at the Guardians, Alex has also performed roles in the Risk team and the Asset Allocation team. Prior to joining the Guardians in 2009, Alex had worked for Goldman Sachs JBWere (NZ) Ltd as Director of Derivatives for two years. Prior to that, he worked at Merrill Lynch for seven years in London as Vice President. In this role, he was a structured credit derivatives trader, managing a large trading book and market-making on tranches, bespoke CDOs, default swap options, and other derivatives. Alex holds an MSc in Mathematical Trading and Finance from the City University of London (2004) and a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Civil. from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand (1997).
