Los Angeles Business Journal Names Milken Institute Research Organization of the Year

The Milken Institute has been chosen as the Research Organization of the Year by Los Angeles Business Journal.

The award, which was presented at the Business Journal's 2020 Health Care Panel & Awards virtual event, was accepted on behalf of the Institute by Esther Krofah, executive director of FasterCures. Since March, FasterCures has been tracking vaccine and treatment developments for COVID-19. The ongoing benefits of the Milken Institute Treatment and Vaccine Tracker were highlighted by the Business Journal while presenting the award.

Speaking via Zoom on August 27, Krofah said: “On behalf of all of us at the Milken Institute, I am incredibly grateful to be recognized by the Los Angeles Business Journal for our research efforts. We are proud to have more than 200 professionals here and around the world dedicated to using their skills, insights, and boundless energy to help build meaningful lives. And today, that mission means more than ever before.

“At FasterCures, the center I lead within the Institute, we have been using these research capabilities this year to help the world better understand the intricacies of vaccine and therapeutic development for COVID-19. What started as a flat spreadsheet looking at a handful of vaccines and treatments, has turned into a fully-realized interactive tool that is being utilized by governments, researchers, and journalists to fully grasp the contours of the international response to this pandemic.

“As you know, we are living in truly unprecedented times. Never has the need for clear, unbiased, and actionable information been more critical, and we are fully dedicated to meeting this moment in the best way we know how—by shining a light on the issues that matter.”
