The Weight of Care: Rethinking Who Supports the Caregiver

-

Family caregivers are vital contributors to the nation’s health-care infrastructure. Daily, 63 million Americans provide hands-on care, coordinate appointments, manage medications, navigate complex health systems, and handle financial transactions such as insurance claims and bill paying. All this effort allows millions of people to remain at home, healthy and independent. Yet despite their essential role, caregivers are too often overlooked in the design of health care and public policy, and are invisible in workplaces. If family caregivers are essential to better health care delivery, why aren’t we building systems to support them? This conversation brings together leaders from health care, business, and government to explore what it would take to fully integrate and support family caregivers. From redesigning care delivery and strengthening workplace strategies, to scaling innovative public policies, panelists will examine how every sector can help build a more resilient care ecosystem to recognize caregivers as essential partners in health.
