Middle East and Africa Summit 2022

Part 2: The Road to COP28

-

The UAE has made clear its desire to support climate action by agreeing to host COP28. Nonetheless, significant responsibilities come with being the host country for a global climate conference. Ambassador Patricia Espinosa, former Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, has navigated this matter for the past six years, which, among many things, must consider logistics, operations, tourism, and execution. In this panel, Ambassador Espinosa and HE Mariam Almheiri will discuss several of these pressing issues: How can the UAE ensure that COP28 is successful across the economic, political, climate and social strata? As the host country, what role does the UAE play in setting the substantive agenda? How can the UAE best use this unique leverage of hosting COP28?
