There is widespread recognition that our ability to efficiently perform testing for COVID-19 on a large scale—whether to diagnose current cases or determine who might have immunity—is key to restarting economic activity in the US. How close are we to where we need to be in terms of the numbers and types of tests, our capacity to process results, and our ability to trace contacts of those infected? What are the practicalities of getting this infrastructure up and running across the country? And what are the risks of reopening if we don’t have it in place?
