Envisioning the Future of the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain to Advance Public Health in the United States

The Milken Institute Center for Public Health engaged our network of thought leaders to understand what actions could be taken to make the pharmaceutical supply chain (PSC) more resilient and equitable to advance public health. This report offers 12 actionable recommendations to bolster the PSC and spotlights case studies with respective learnings.

In this report, the Center for Public Health uses public health models and frameworks to identify gaps and opportunities across the PSC. Through a landscape analysis, discussions with 35 thought leaders, and two roundtables, we identified three key issue areas to support PSC resilience:

  1. Health Equity

  2. Trust and Communication

  3. Public-Private Partnerships

This report presents case studies for each issue area and one case study that illustrates the intersection of all three issue areas, illuminating the ingenuity, resourcefulness, and shrewdness of PSC stakeholders. These best practices demonstrate the actionable potential of the report’s 12 recommendations and how they can close gaps across the PSC.
