Julie Louise Gerberding

Dr. Gerberding is Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health. The FNIH creates and manages research alliances with public and private institutions to support the mission of the NIH. The FNIH works with its partners to accelerate biomedical research that addresses some of the most pressing health challenges in the United States and across the globe. Dr. Gerberding joined Merck in 2010 as President, Merck Vaccines and then served as Executive Vice President and Chief Patient Officer. Prior to Merck, Dr. Gerberding was Director of the US CDC from 2002-2009. She currently co-chairs the CSIS Commission on Strengthening America’s Health Security and serves on several boards. Dr. Gerberding has received many awards and honors and in 2018 was selected as the Healthcare Businesswomen Association’s Woman of the Year. Dr. Gerberding received undergraduate and M.D. degrees from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and a Masters of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
