Sharif Vakili, MD, MBA, MS, is cofounder and CEO of UpDoc. He has more than a decade of company-building experience as a serial entrepreneur and former investor at Polaris Partners, where he supported and served on the boards of companies across digital health and biotechnology. Sharif is also an AI researcher, practicing primary care physician, and Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford University, where he lectures at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Sharif has pioneered a new model of Clinical AI in which AI moves beyond supporting clinical decisions to autonomously delivering care within physician-defined treatment plans. His research produced the first randomized clinical trial of an AI agent autonomously managing medications, and his work at UpDoc led to the first FDA-cleared patient-facing Clinical AI system designed to autonomously manage treatment on behalf of physicians. He continues to advance the field through research, clinical practice, and the development of autonomous Clinical AI systems.
Sharif completed his Internal Medicine residency at Stanford, earned his MD from Johns Hopkins, his MBA from Harvard, and his MS and BS from Yale.
