Tripp Smith

Head, GA Credit and Managing Director, General Atlantic

Tripp Smith is the Global Head of GA Credit and a Managing Director at General Atlantic. He also serves on the firm’s Executive Committee and Credit Investment Committee.

 

Widely recognized as a pioneer in private credit, Tripp has spent more than three decades investing across leveraged finance and alternative credit markets. In 2025, he was named one of Private Equity News’ Twenty Most Influential in Private Credit.

 

Prior to joining General Atlantic, Tripp founded Iron Park Capital (“IPC”) in 2019 and served as Chief Executive Officer. Prior to founding IPC, Tripp was a Co-Founder of GSO Capital Partners, now Blackstone Credit, and a Senior Managing Director of The Blackstone Group. Before joining GSO, Tripp held various leadership roles within Credit Suisse, including Global Head of the Capital Markets Group and Global Co-Head of the Leveraged Finance Group. Tripp joined Credit Suisse First Boston in November 2000 when it acquired Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, where he was Global Head of High Yield Capital Markets. Prior to joining DLJ, he worked for Smith Barney and Drexel Burnham Lambert.

Tripp earned a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame.

Tripp is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council at the University of Notre Dame and the United States Soccer Federation Leadership Advisory Group. He also serves on the Board of Directors of West Ham United F.C. in London, England.
