Sok Ching Cheong

Prof Dr CHEONG Sok Ching is Chief Scientific Officer of Cancer Research Malaysia, a nonprofit research organisation dedicated to improving cancer outcomes for Asian populations. Her work focuses on addressing disparities in cancer care by leading research that spans discovery through implementation, prevention, early detection and treatment, particularly for underserved populations. Over the past two decades, she has led multidisciplinary teams working across cancer biology, clinical research, digital health and community implementation. A major focus is MeMoSA® (Mobile Mouth Screening Anywhere), a mobile health platform supporting oral cancer screening and early detection through frontline healthcare workers. Her team is developing and validating artificial intelligence using regionally relevant data for future image-based risk assessment. Her work also includes NORA® (Navigation, Outreach & Resource Access), which has expanded across public hospitals in Malaysia to address barriers to timely breast cancer diagnosis and care through patient navigation, community outreach and access to resources. She also provides scientific leadership for a locally developed therapeutic cancer vaccine, advancing cancer therapeutics for Asian populations. Across these efforts, Prof. Cheong works closely with researchers, clinicians, policymakers and communities to translate advances into accessible solutions that reduce cancer disparities across Asia. She is a member of the AACR Asia Pacific Advisory Group, and a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Sciences Malaysia.
